 Message Recovery – Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 2, 2026

This policy explains how Message Recovery ("the app"), made by Divya Hirpara ("we", "us"), handles your information. In short: the app works entirely on your iPhone, and we do not collect, store or share your personal data.

1. Information we collect

None. The app has no account or sign-up. It contains no analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting tools, and we run no servers that receive your data.

2. Chats and files you import

When you share a chat export file with the app, or pick one from the Files app, the app reads it on your device and saves the messages, photos, videos, voice notes and documents it contains in the app's private storage on your iPhone. This content is never uploaded or sent to us or to anyone else. You can delete any chat, or your whole archive, inside the app at any time. Deleting the app removes everything it stored.

3. Backups

If you create a backup, the app writes your archive into a single encrypted file (AES-GCM) and opens the iOS share sheet. Where that file goes – Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop or another app – is your choice and is handled by iOS and the service you pick. If you set a passphrase, the file cannot be opened without it, and we cannot recover a lost passphrase.

4. Face ID, passcode and the private vault

If you turn on App Lock or the private vault, Face ID or Touch ID is checked by iOS. The app never receives your biometric data – only whether the check succeeded. An app passcode, if you set one, is stored in the iOS Keychain on your device.

5. Notifications

If you allow notifications, the app schedules local reminders on your device. No push service is used and no notification data leaves your iPhone. You can turn reminders off in the app or in iOS Settings.

6. Direct message

The Direct message feature builds a chat link for the phone number you type and hands it to iOS, which opens the app that handles that link. Recently used numbers are kept on your device so you can reuse them, and you can clear them in the app.

7. Opening other apps

When you tap an option to open your messaging app, iOS opens that app. Anything you do there is covered by that app's own privacy policy.

8. Photos

If you choose to save a recovered photo or video, the app asks for permission to add it to your photo library. It only adds items you choose and does not read your library.

9. Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone, including children under 13.

10. Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and its effective date.
